He came from a noble Spanish ancestry. But (very important to understand his mentality) his ancestors knew a Spain divided in very many different kingdoms. He became Pope in 1492, when Italy was divides in very many different countries and Spain (precisely this year) has got the unity. Being with the kings ‘Isabel and Fernando’ the country that we know today (well, more or less). Therefore, his idea and Cesar Borgia’s idea (Cesar was his cleverest son) it was not so strange: if Isabel and Fernando had got the unity of Spain, why cannot him to get the unity of Italy under his crown?

In this point, all of the books and films are wrong. They forget this reality to emphasized the Borgia’s ambition and ambition that, in my point of view, was supported by the customs of the whole kings during the Renaissance: France, England, German… had similar problems and struggles among nobles and future powerful kings.

Was her daughter a poisoner? Probably, as the rest of the Italian nobles. Did he hire murderers? Why not? Everybody with political power did that.

Alexander VI was only a politician and he did similar things to the previous and posterior Popes.

But I like legends.
